I got my first call from her today. " Ms. Pahnke, I have Dean here with me and there has been an accident." That was enough to make this mom have to sit down in order to not fall down.
It seems that some of the boys got a little rowdy during free play time this afternoon and while playing with the cars and trucks one of the trucks ended up going airborne. It was an accident, the truck got caught on a rubber transition piece on the floor between the carpeted are and the linoleum area. When this happened, the force at which the little boy was pushing the car sent it into the air. it landed right on Deans' eyebrow.
Dean was sent to the nurses office bleeding and a goose egg already forming above his eye.
He has a fairly good size cut in his eye brow and 2 small scrapes on his eye lid. He did not need stitches( but just barely). He will have butterfly bandages on it for a while to keep it together until it starts to heal and he still has a pretty good size goose egg. It is starting to bruise and i am pretty sure by morning he will have his first black eye.
The little boy who did it felt terrible and hugged Dean and told him he was sorry. Dean knew it was an accident and told me he was brave and did not cry cause only babies cry when they get hurt. I told him sometimes everyone cries.
He did this about an hour before school let out so the nurse bandaged him up, and sent him back to his room with an ice pack after calling me.
I picked him up and gave him some Tylenol and another ice pack. He seems to be in a good mood but has said it hurts several times. i am just glad it wasn't any worse that it was and that it hit his eye brow and not his eye.
Being a mom is so not fun sometimes!

OH Elisha,
I know whereof you speak, and it's awful, isn't it? Sounds like he's doing ok tonight, but little hearts - no matter how brave they are on the outside - still need a mom's attention and love.
Dean is blessed to have the mommy he does.
Hugs and prayers for you both.
Sue
I'm glad Dean is OK, little boys and their tough play......lots of memories for me in this post and I'm sure for all who have "little" boys
HUGS,

Oooh, that call would have scared me to death. I'm so glad it's not worse even though it does sound pretty bad.
Sounds like Dean has earned a treat! :)
Give him a hug for me.

Poor little punkin'.
I remember Matthew running in a gym after a Cub Scout meeting. It was his older brother's meeting, so he must have been 5 or so. He and another boy collided full-front-on, meaning both faces smashing into each other. The blood started flying from Matthew's nose before they un-collided! He lay on the floor, screaming and crying, and I held his head on my lap, watching blood spurt down his throat. I don't know who was more hysterical! But it stopped in a remarkably short time, and, by the time we got home (we lived a block away from the school) he was ready for ice cream and bed, as if nothing had happened!
You're right; being a mom hurts sometimes! In fact, alot!
