This Memorial Day Weekend, I pray everyone takes a moment to remember that this isn't just an extra day off of work. I pray that everyone will take a moment and remember those who have given their lives to protect our country as well as those who are still serving our country.
This weekend when you are remembering those who have served and those who are serving please remember Shawn. PFC Shawn Pahnke was taken from us on 6/16/03 while serving our country in Iraq.
Dean and I will go to the courthouse lawn tomorrow morning for the Memorial Day service that is held in front of the crosses that bear the names of all the soldiers from our county who have given their lives for our country. Shawn's is among them. We will then go put flowers under the tree that was planted in his memory in town.
RIP Shawn. We miss you and love you always.

Hi Elisha,
I am so glad that your town is remembering all she has lost - I call your town she because when we speak of America and our flag we say "long may she wave." All over America yesterday so many towns were remembering their sons and daughters who have fallen...and those who are defending us now. We know that in their service they are saying, "long may she wave." Thank you for sharing Shawn with us - and for the sacrifice YOU have made as well. I know he would be proud of you and Dean for continuing to carry the colors for him.
love,
sue
